#1 The Day I Started Journaling

How it all begin

One day in 2009, I found a diary while we (a family of five) were cleaning our home before Diwali. I have always been fond of diaries—I loved the blank pages with dates and the leather covers with the year written on them.

I was very curious to know whose diary it was, as no one in our family writes one. 🤔

I opened it and started reading, and to my surprise, it was in my dad’s handwriting. How come Dad had been writing a journal and no one knew about it? I checked the dates, and they were from years back—before he was even married, when he had just started his job as a junior. It was really interesting to read about his days during training and what he missed the most at that time.

I showed it to him and asked why he had stopped journaling. He was amazed to see his old memory book and was happy that I had found it. He said it was something he did when he was young and that he doesn’t have time for it anymore.

I felt a little sad hearing that, because writing down feelings and memories is such a beautiful thing.

I decided that day that I would start writing! 🤓

Journaling for years

After journaling for years and filling many, many diaries, I stopped writing. YES! I STOPPED.

Not because I was too busy with life or didn’t want to fill any more diaries, but because I FOUND SOMEONE. Yes, I found the love of my life—my husband 😍—who became my living journal.

I started sharing everything I used to write in my diary with him—my emotions, thoughts, and happiness. It felt good, really good. But slowly, I realized that while I loved sharing things with my husband, I also received his opinions and thoughts in return. Because of course, he is human, and it’s natural for him to share his feelings on any topic.

I truly enjoyed and appreciated his thoughts, but sometimes I wondered: am I getting distracted? Are these really my thoughts, or are they the result of our conversations?

After thinking about it for a while, I decided to go back to writing first and then share the key points with him. This helped me better understand what my own thoughts were and what belonged to us.

So, instead of journaling in a diary and using more paper, I decided to go digital. This way, I can read it anytime—and so can anyone else.

And that’s how it started. I’m going to write online now.
